Community and chat: Slack, Discord, Microsoft Teams, Circle
Alerts in the channel your team already watches, and a Circle community that opens and closes with membership.
Two different jobs
Slack, Discord and Microsoft Teams are message feeds: Mybers posts to a channel when a member joins, renews or lapses, a payment lands or fails, or an event is created, published or cancelled. Nothing flows back. Circle is a member community: Mybers invites members in and takes them out as their membership changes.
Who connects what
- Chambers and associations post to the staff channel (Slack, or Teams on Microsoft 365) so the office sees joins and failed payments without opening the dashboard.
- Clubs, leagues, gyms and studios run the member community in Discord or Circle. Circle membership follows paid membership on its own; Discord gets the announcements today, and a bot that grants a role by level is on the roadmap.
- Nonprofits with a board channel post payment and lapse alerts there so the treasurer and membership chair see the same feed.
Circle: invite on join, remove on lapse
Each new active member is invited into your Circle community under their Mybers name and email, the moment they join. When a membership lapses, is suspended or cancelled they are removed, and invited again when they renew. If you'd rather keep lapsed members in the community, turn off Remove from Circle when a membership lapses on the Settings tab. Run sync invites everyone active and removes everyone lapsed in one pass.
Keep member data out of member-facing channels
A channel post names the member and, for payments, the amount. Point the webhook at a staff-only channel. For a channel members can read, use a second install on a channel with no payment events, or wait for the per-event choices we're adding.
Setting up
- Slack: an Incoming Webhook URL from your Slack app (starts with hooks.slack.com/services).
- Discord: Server Settings → Integrations → Webhooks → New Webhook, pick the channel, copy the URL.
- Microsoft Teams: the channel's Incoming Webhook connector (or a Workflow that accepts a webhook).
- Circle: an admin API token from Settings → API and your numeric Community ID.
